Mauro Picotto Chart placed on Groove May Issue

His big break came 22 years ago when he won Best Italian DJ in the Walky Cup Competition in Italy. Since then he’s worked with Tiesto, had chart success with the tracks “Lizard (Gonna Get Ya)” and “I Feel Love” (under the pseudonym CRW), and he hosts his mighty Meganite parties in Ibiza and Miami. But now Mauro Picotto feels it’s time to give something back.

With over 600 releases and over six million copies sold worldwide, Italian dance stalwart Mauro Picotto has taken his sound from dance, to trance and techno. This has seen him perform everywhere from Love Parade to Creamfields, the MTV Festival, Winter Olympics in Turin, Ultra, Time Warp and Awakenings. The man behind the Alchemy imprint, this year sees the release of several EPs and the first Alchemy Festival, in Pinerolo near Turin, June 11.

Mauro Picotto und sein Label Alchemy Records planen einen Open Air für elektronische Underground-Musik. Das “Techno-Woodstock” soll am 11. Juni in Mauro’s Heimatort in der Nähe von Turin steigen.  Dort sollen weltbekannte DJs und Künstler mit außergewöhnlichen Live-Auftritten auf vielversprechende Talente treffen. Zum Festival hat der italienische DJ und Produzent deshalb auch einen Wettbewerb für Newcomer ins Leben gerufen. „The Alchemy Festival and Competition“ ist der Name von Italiens erstem Open-Air-Underground-Festival, das am 11. Juni in Mauro Picottos Heimatstadt Cavour über die Bühne gehen soll. Inzwischen steht das vorläufige Line Up und mit dem Briten Mark Broom, dem Wahl-Brasilianer Christian Smith, Gabry Fasano, Yousef oder auch dem italienischen Produzenten-Talent Luca Morris finden sich darauf hochkarätige Underground-Stars. Natürlich wird sich auch Mauro Picotto selbst die Ehre geben.

Chissà quante volte avrà sentito pronunciare in modo errato il suo cognome, pieno di consonanti dure al pari di Paul Brtschitsch: Jacek Sienkiewicz, polacco, classe ’76, è al quarto album (il terzo sulla label di Sven Väth) che incornicia egregiamente un appassionato lavoro discografico decennale. Parlando di un progetto targato Cocoon Recordings si rischia di cadere nell’ovvietà, nel affermare cose già dette o passare per chi loda musica definita dorata in virtù dell’appartenenza editoriale ad uno dei gruppi discografici più influenti del pianeta, ma l’ascolto attento dell’album di Sienkiewicz annullerà ogni timore di questo tipo.
