Dum - Album Review on DJMag October 2010

28 October 2010

Between them, Dum (aka Italian duo Alessio Mereu and Andrea Ferlin) have been producing organic house for the likes of Contexterrior, Freak`n`Chic and CMYK for years. And it shows. Self-titled debut `Dum`s is a warm affair, which bears the live hallmarks of dOP, the late night vibes of Freak`n`Chic and the know-how of producers who have been in charge of more tahn a few dancefloors in their time.

Building through woozy, mysterious melodies, subdued house rhythms and deep, hypnotic shuffles, `Dum`places a large focus on dynamic contrast to tell its take. There are neither explicit changes of pace nor huge, hand-waving breakdowners, but instead snippets of human voices, muted percussion and all manner of instruments which bleed in and out of focus and add to an almost rainforest-like humidity: admirable for sure, accomplished certainly and lovable... maybe.
